McGowan Chase Benefits Three Local Charities
October 14, 2012

The first annual 10-mile "McGowan Chase" took place in Newfields, NH this morning, a fundraising event to benefit three local nonprofit organizations in Wentworth Charities, Beyond the Rainbow, and Seacoast United Foundation.  Through corporate sponsors and individual donations, the race was proud to award over $1000 to each of the three charities.

Wentworth Charities focuses their fundraising on supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, while Exeter Hospital’s Beyond the Rainbow provides assistance to families struggling with cancer.  The Seacoast United Foundation provides support to soccer families and local community soccer programs through scholarships and community grants.

Early morning rain tailed off just as the runners were ready to begin, making way for cool temperatures under cloudy skies as 30 participants took to the trails.  The race had a 5-mile drop out point for those looking to complete a shorter run.  The first to cross the finish line on the 10-mile course was Glen Wilkinson (men), and Kristin Cary (women), who took home a Seacoast United Foundation fleece and a new pair of Nike running shoes.  All runners received a Nike drifit t-shirt and sack bag courtesy of Exeter Hospital and Core Orthopaedics.

Volunteers from Kennebunk Savings, Newmarket International, Exeter Hospital, and Seacoast United all helped in keeping the event running smoothly in marking the course, working water stations, and preparing the post-race cookout & bonfire.

The race was named in memory of Archie McGowan, father of Newfields residents Archie, Shawn, and Gavin McGowan and grandfather of Jason McGowan, who all participated in today’s race.
